How Smartphone are impacting the society with social media

Smartphone increase the internet’s accessibility (Das and Khan 2016). Smartphone which is also known as mobile device had impacted the society (Das and Khan 2016). The few major areas that Smartphone had impacted are education, business, social life and health. Mobile technology had massively changed the behavior and cultural of society. Two impacts are included which are positive impacts and negative impacts.

(Google 2019)

There are few Smartphone’s positive impacts. The positive impacts of Smartphone are that it is growing since the past few years. The rapid growth of Internet services had increases the uses of Smartphone and mobile phone’s applications. In a short time period, the number of Smartphone sold had provide or give an opportunity to businesses in investing on development of mobile application and this leads to introducing new business dimension into the market.  As the process of changing settings and making customization on Smartphone are easy, therefore different type of programs on Smartphone were produced by different company such as Android, Blackberry, Microsoft and iPhone and others (Sarwar 2013).

(Google 2019)

Besides, social media can impact the society from the interaction and engagement between the network users can help in increasing the reach of marketing messages across different and multiple platforms where it helps in improving brand’s awareness. High engagement among users leads to good marketing attention as it was always connecting society’s nature with social network where this can create willingness of society to share information on social networks. The connection between society and social network can help to promote the products (Hazari 2017).

(Google 2019)

Next, positive impact of Smartphone is that it acts as a social connectivity. Level of political participation among society can be increased due to mobile technology if society have self-efficacy that are high. Benefit of political participation and social connectivity’s are being observed on society such as youth and teenagers where it can increase their civic engagement levels using Smartphone. Due to the reliance of them on online social network which is Facebook, had changes the traditional cultural, political and social structures on society which are primarily for younger citizens grown in technology world, full of mobile phones. Mobile phones represent a symbol where it changes society’s position in the social hierarchy and relationships. Social Cognitive Theory (SCL) explained the processes. SCT consider the connective factors such as self-efficacy and social influence that influences society’s uses of ICT (Gies 2018).

Thus, the positive impacts of Smartphone can be used as marketing tools to promoted their products to the society which are more convenient and more efficient (Ha, Kang and Kim 2017).

(Smart Social 2019)

However, the negative impact of Smartphone is it creates distraction to the younger teenagers such as students in the society. Smartphone allows students to communicate through text, communication on social networking sites, reading emails, playing online games and watching movies online. It does not only affect students but also students around them who are studying in the class and get distracted. Therefore, it will be easier for students to cheat during exams in a crowded examination hall by using Smartphone to search for the answers or texting other students for answers. Misusing of Smartphone includes using calculators, phone apps and searching Internet for answers and reading notes that are saved in their Smartphones throughout the examination period (Mishra 2014). Besides, Smartphones also encourages hazing and bullying. It is a serious concern in schools among many countries including USA- United States of America. This is due to Smartphone are equipped with camera and video technology which can records and captures photo of bullying and hazing in schools. It creates a bad impact on the society (Sarwar 2013).

For instance, most user’s find it more convenient to stored their login ID and password in the Smartphone’s plain text. This creates security issues; it was found that more than 1 million of Smartphone users were affected by the malware infection of Android via downloading apps that are containing malicious software in the beginning of 2011 (He 2014).
